Cornwall's Bank Holiday Solar Surge
Date: 31 Aug 2010
It wasn’t just the holidaymakers lapping up the sunshine in Cornwall this August Bank Holiday. Plug Into The Sun’s recent customers were delighting in seeing their bright investment reaching its potential. Plug Into The Sun Install
Solar panels generate electricity in daylight – even without blue skies – but the beautiful, sunny weather will doubtless, be pushing the panels further. In fact, solar PV installations in the south west (and particularly Cornwall) perform better all year round! Most of our solar arrays produce at least 1000kWh per kWp of PV installed. That is at least 20% higher than the UK average. So if you’re investing in a brighter future with solar energy, there is no better place to do it than in the south west; where the sun shines stronger for longer. Just see our map of solar electricity potential if you want to see the proof!
Don’t forget, now is the best time to switch to solar because of the government’s generous Feed in Tariff. Experts agree the high rates won’t be around forever. At the moment you can earn up to £1600 a year on a 4kWp system. As an individual, the cash is tax-free, index-linked and guaranteed for 25 years. The Feed in Tariff may seem too good to be true, but it is as good as it sounds and as true! The government is trying to encourage uptake of micro-generation so the UK can meet its climate change targets. That means, at the moment, electricity utility companies are obliged to buy renewable electricity at fixed above-market rates set by the government. Try our NEW Feed In Tariff calculator to see how much money your roof could make. Now wouldn’t it be nice to get a cheque from your utilities provider, rather than a bill? That way, when the sun shines like it did this Bank Holiday, you’ll be smiling all the way to the beach…and the bank!
