Carnyorth Outdoor Education Centre based near St Just In West Cornwall has just had a complete eco-renovation! Work has included installing a solar thermal system, installing gas Central heating (rather than Electric) AND a state of the art PV installation. Read about the Carnyorth Project.
PLUG INTO THE SUN have been working with Penwith District Council and Penwith Housing Association to deliver a unique series of installations on Social Housing in West Penwith.
The objective is to assist Tenants on relatively low incomes to reduce their electricity bills and generate on site renewable energy. Read about the Penwith Project
Kerrier District Council We recently completed a 10kW solar PV installation on the roof of Kerrier District Council's offices in Camborne. The system is fixed on a flat roof using Solion mounting system. This is the first council building in the UK to have solar pv.
The system uses 3 Fronius IG30 outdoor inverters which provides full data-logging and allows the environmental manager of the council to monitor the system from their PC.
In the foyer of the council building, we have installed a special display detailing the installation. This also includes a electronic readouts from the system that shows Instantaneous Power, CO2 saved, and Total Energy generated since the system went live. The system will save the emission of over 5 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year and received 50% funding from the
Low Carbon Building Programme Phase2 scheme.
TauntonWe completed a 3kW solar PV installation for a school in Taunton.
This is the first school in the UK to have a solar PV installation using Phase 2 funding from the LCBP program.
The system uses Kyocera 175W Panels and we have created a custom sign in reception with an electronic display of the energy generated by the system and the CO2 saved.
BodminWarleggan Jubilee Hall, nr Bodmin is the the 1st community project in the UK to benefit from LCBP Phase II funding. This 5kW system also has 50% matched funding from EDF energy for community groups so the installation was 100% funded.
Flat Roof Solution We recently had an interesting problem to solve with an installation on a flat roof. To maximise the efficiency of the panels, we managed to elevate them using a special frame which is fixed into the side walls of the building and rests on the roof using rubber feet. The system uses 10 Kyocera 200W panels producing 2kW which provides 100% of the home owners electricity needs.
Solar TilesThese roof integrated solar tiles helped us complete a 2kW installation for a house in Penwith. The Solar Century C21e tile is a perfect solution for this sort of system as it enables us to add solar PV to houses with hardly any visual impact.
Penzance YMCA Penzance YMCA now has a 4kW system using Sanyo Hybrid panels. These are a combination of mono-crystalline & amorphous technology which converts a higher percentage of light energy into electrical energy.
CamborneWe recently installed this Solar PV system which uses Sanyo HIT200W PV "hybrid" panels, the most efficient in the current domestic market.
PenzanceA 2kw system on a garage roof in Penzance - you don't have to put it on your house.
Shaded ChaletIf you are sited in a shaded area you could still take advantage of Solar PV technology. This 1kW installation uses Solar Century's Uni-solar Amorphous panels which are more efficient under shaded conditions.
East facing roof We installed a larger capacity 4KW system at Isaac House, Helston. The installation is on an east facing roof, which is not as efficient as a south facing roof, so we added more capacity to the system to take advantage of the morning sun.
