Kerrier District Council has led the way with renewable energy by making their Council building the first in the UK to have solar PV.
Background
Kerrier District Council in Cornwall are leading the way with renewable energy - theirs is the first Council building in the UK to have solar PV.
Objective
The objective was to meet the Council office's basic electrical needs and reduce running costs, as well as provide an example for the community. By carefully monitoring the installation, the Council wanted to demonstrate that solar PV works.
Funding
The installation has been funded by Kerrier District Council and the Low Carbon Building Programme (LCBP).
Installation
The system uses 3 Fronius IG30 outdoor inverters which log all the data generated by the installation. The environmental manager of the council to is able to monitor the system from a PC.
In the foyer of the building, we have installed a special display with information about the installation and electronic readouts showing system data: how much power is being produced, how much carbon dioxide is saved and the total energy generated since the system went live.
The system will save the emission of over 5 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
